RESIDENTIAL CHILDCARE WORKER (RCW) - THERAPEUTIC CHILDREN'S HOMES
Location: Bridgwater and Taunton areas
Shifts: Full-time, on average 40 hours per week, Monday to Sunday including weekends, evenings and sleep-ins.
Salary: £31,142.00 - £32,702.00 per annum (*inclusive of sleep-ins). *This salary is inclusive of 7 sleep-in payments per month. Sleep-ins are remunerated at £55.00 per night, with employees able to undertake up to 10 sleep-ins per month. The stated salary is for full-time positions and is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Requirements:
· If not already achieved, a commitment to complete Level 4 Children, Young People & Families Practitioner, a nationally recognised qualification required to enable individuals to work within residential childcare (legally required within 2 years of employment).
· A valid, full UK manual driving licence.
· This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references, which will be completed as part of the recruitment process.

What the role involves:
We are seeking highly motivated, compassionate and resilient individuals to join our team of Residential Childcare Workers (RCWs) in our therapeutic children's homes.
In this role, you will provide day-to-day support, guidance, and care to children and young people who have experienced trauma and may have additional needs.
Duties include:
· Being a professional parent
· Provide consistent and nurturing care, helping children feel safe, valued and part of the home
· Build positive, trusting relationships that support children’s confidence, emotional wellbeing and sense of belonging
· Support children with daily routines and personal care, encouraging their independence wherever possible
· Help young people develop life skills such as cooking, budgeting, looking after their space and making positive choices
· Respond calmly and therapeutically when children are upset, using empathy, co-regulation and reflective approaches
· Encourage children to take part in education, hobbies, and community activities, celebrating their achievements
· Listen to children’s views and include them in decisions about their care and goals
· Keep clear, respectful and accurate records, always reflecting the child’s voice and progress
· Work closely with your team and other professionals to ensure consistent, trauma-informed support
· Take shared responsibility for keeping the home clean, safe, warm and welcoming
Desirable skills and experience:
- Experience working with children and young people, ideally in a residential setting.
- A strong understanding of child development and the impact of trauma on children and young people.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive and caring approach to supporting children and young people.
- The ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing situations.
